Force is now with Cheveley Park Stud

September 03, 2013 01:12:06 PM

Britain’s leading sprinter, Lethal Force, has been sold by owner, Alan Craddock, to leading owner/breeders the Cheveley Pak Stud, but will not race in their famous red, white, and blue colours for the rest of what will be his final campaign, the decision having been already made to retire him to stud at the end of this season.

The Clive Cox-trained grey has been purchased for an undisclosed fee having enjoyed a tremendous time of things this term, a season that his seen the son of Dark Angel establish himself as the best British six-furlong sprinter with victories in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

He then cemented his position at the top of the pile with a pillar-to-post success in the Group 1 Darley July Cup at Newmarket a few weeks later.

The Cheveley Park Stud released a statement expressing its delight at having a horse of the calibre of Lethal Force to look forward to as a debut stallion next season. Stud owners, David and Patricia Thompson, (who as well as winning a host of top Flat races with their homebred horses also won the 1992 Aintree Grand National with Party Politics), pointed out that, with a Timeform rating of 130, the four-year-old is the highest rated British sprinter for a number of years, so will be a valuable addition to their band of stallions which currently includes the likes of Dutch Art, Kyllachy, Medicean, and the outstanding Pivotal.

Runner-up to the French superstar, Moonlight Cloud, at Deauville last time out over seven furlongs, Lethal Force could yet add to his British haul this term being warm favourite to land the Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock before possibly ending in the Group 2 British Champions Sprint at Ascot in October. Fans hoping to bet on Moonlight Cloud ought to try it now before the horse bows out later this year.
