Sunset+Vine wins prized Dubai horseracing contract
Sunset+Vine has won the contract to produce and distribute one of horseracing’s most famous festivals, the Dubai International Racing Carnival (DIRC).
The seventh Carnival will be run at the brand new state-of-the-art Meydan Racecourse in Dubai, and span nine fixtures from January 28 through to March 5, worth around U$10m in total prize-money.
Sunset+Vine, which produces the BBC’s horseracing coverage, is already responsible for the TV production and distribution of the world’s most valuable raceday, the Dubai World Cup meeting (staged the last Saturday every March) since the race’s inception in 1996.
The on-course presentation team will include Channel 4 and Racing UK’s Richard Hoiles and the BBC’s Rishi Persad, and will be backed up by a studio presence.
Sunset+Vine TV horseracing producer Dermot Cumiskey said: “Sunset+Vine has a proud tradition of covering the premier horseracing events from all around the world over the years.
“We have won awards for our coverage of UK races, such as the Grand National, the Epsom Derby and Royal Ascot, while we have produced and distributed most of the major races on the global calendar through the World Series competition.
“We have a long and valued association with Dubai and the Dubai World Cup, and we are delighted the Dubai Racing Club has entrusted Sunset+Vine with this year’s Carnival, which marks the opening of the futuristic Meydan on January 28 and is arguably the most pivotal chapter in Dubai racing.”
Henry Birtles, who manages the distribution of the Carnival, added: ““The Carnival is all about international competition so we will ensure the coverage is as far-reaching as possible. Last year, we distributed the Dubai World Cup to 150 Countries and around 165 broadcasters, and a similar figure for the Carnival is challenging but hopefully achievable.”
